My first week in Dallas

It's hard to believe that I have been in Dallas for only 7 days. SO-o-o much to learn about GIAL at the orientation on Monday and Tuesday, that it seems like months that I have been away. The courses started on Wednesday with a class of 6 altogether for 'Scripture Engagement Methods'. We have 2 hours of class time each morning, and then individual study time with readings, videos etc for the rest of the day to be completed before the next class session.. just 31 resources for me to consider on the first day! We have 4 very qualified staff taking us through, who have some amazing credentials internationally to their names...

I began Friday with checking my emails before class, to find a link to a new video on AuSIL's facebook site. When I looked at the video, I felt quite homesick for Arnhemland, as I watched the lovely 11min video of yolŋu telling about why they are doing translation work at the 2013 'Our Word' workshop. It was so encouraging. You may like to look at it too, so I have put the link into this website. Just click here.

Today, Saturday, has been a good break for me from the many readings, with home duties and going out shopping etc. My prayer partner who has been assigned to me on GIAL campus, Rudy, took me out for lunch. We went to Subways and had a large, even though 6inch roll. I have also had a chance to do some practice on a flute that has been loaned to me by Katie who is Assistant to the Dean of students. She said; "I didn't know which to pack for GIAL, my clarinet or my flute. I felt the LORD compelled me to pack the flute. So here it is for you to use. I'm so glad that it is here for you" I was very touched by her kindness, and the LORD's hand in continuing to provide opportunities for me to play the flute as has been the case from the beginning. It has always been my instrument of grace! So now I will play along with a small worship team at Wednesday's chapel time.

I'm off to see the lights of Dallas tonight, while the weather is warm  --- only 18 degrees

Great to catch up on your news, having just come back from the coast. You do a great job at blogging and filling us in. The pumpkin pie looks great! Off to Sydney tomorrow then on to Perth with mum. Love, your sis, Evelyn
